Like any Lithium-ion battery, the Faraday battery’s performance is affected by winter temperatures. If you live somewhere that requires a winter coat, it’s best to keep these tips in mind.
Operation in Cold Weather:
- Lithium-ion batteries can be damaged when operated at very low temperatures. To protect your battery, your Faraday controller will automatically limit the power available to the motor at temperatures near or below freezing. This may result in a temporary “sluggish” feel until the battery’s self-heating warms it to a safe level for full power operation.
- Whenever possible do not charge your bike in temperatures below freezing.
- Lithium-ion battery capacity drops in cold temperatures. At 0°F, your battery will perform half as well as at 75°F (i.e.your 20-mile range would drop to a 10-mile range). This effect is reversible and your battery will return to full capacity in warmer temperatures.
Storage in Cold Weather:
- For daily riding, we recommend you keep your bike in temperatures above 40°F if possible.
- For long-term winter storage, we find it best to keep your bike (and yourself) in a space that stays above -20°F.
- Before putting your bike away for the winter, charge your bike above 80%. This should be sufficient for three months of cold weather storage. To ensure you don’t run into any issues we recommend recharging every month.
Failure to follow these guidelines may degrade battery performance and forfeit your battery warranty
